Steal a Seed Plant Sizes: What They Are and What They Actually Do

How plant sizes appear in Steal a Seed, how to spot a size difference, and why big plants do not reliably earn more. A bounded size reference, not a tier ranking.

Plants in Steal a Seed have sizes as a distinct attribute — the game's official listing names "unique sizes" alongside rarity and mutations — but no mechanical effect of size has been verified. Observed play includes both enormous plants that earn very little and small plants that earn huge amounts, so treat size as something you can see and recognize, not as a bonus you can bank on.

Sizes are an official plant attribute

The official Roblox listing for Steal A Seed describes the collection loop as "Uncover rare plants, unique sizes and incredible mutations!" That wording places size in its own category, separate from plant variety and from mutations. In other words, when a plant looks bigger or smaller than usual, that difference is not automatically a mutation — size is tracked independently.

How size shows up in the game

Two things indicate how size is represented:

  • A UI readout. A shop/status screenshot shared by a player shows an "Initial Plant Size" label among the stats, sitting alongside entries like Normal Speed. This confirms the game stores a size value at planting time, but what that value does — and how it's measured — isn't explained by the label itself.
  • Visible variation in grown plants. Player footage shows dramatic size swings: a "giant billion pound cucumber," a "massive" seed whose true scale isn't obvious while planted ("This thing is massive. They did not look that big."), and a plant measured by the player as "8 billion ft tall" that "didn't even look that big." The footage also references rates "if it's normal size," implying at least a normal size versus larger plants.

Note those measurements ("billion pound," "8 billion ft") are player reactions, not confirmed in-game units. And planted size doesn't reliably predict final size — some plants look small in seed form and grow to surprising scale.

Does size affect income?

Observed payouts argue against it, in both directions:

  • A small "baby chomper" earned a weak 126 per second, while another small-looking plant produced almost a million per second.
  • A secret-rarity plant of enormous size earned only 3,000 per second — "that's the size of the Empire State Building," as the player put it.
  • The same footage contrasts "180 cash per second if it's normal size" against a fly trap doing 55k, with the player concluding "It doesn't make any sense."

These are inconsistent with any simple "bigger earns more" rule. Payouts appear driven by other attributes — rarity, variety, and mutations — under conditions that haven't been isolated. Don't assume a large plant is good or a small plant is bad based on size alone; judge the plant's payout and its other attributes instead.

Size vs. variety vs. mutation

Keep the three attributes straight:

  • Variety is which plant it is (cucumber, fly trap, chomper, etc.).
  • Mutation is a special variant state, shown separately in the game's own description.
  • Size is how large the plant is — visible in-game and tracked as an "Initial Plant Size" value.

A visible difference could be any of these. Check the plant's listed mutation and variety before attributing anything to size, and check its actual cash rate before assuming size matters.

What remains unknown

  • No named size tiers, units, formulas, or probability ranges are defined anywhere official or community-side.
  • What the "Initial Plant Size" value actually does is unexplained.
  • How size is assigned when you acquire a seed, or whether it can change during growth, is undocumented.
  • The game updated recently, so recheck how size displays and whether any size effect exists after plant-system changes.
