Steal a Seed Treadmill Training: How to Train Speed and Read Your Progress

How to get on the treadmill in Steal a Seed, what the Speed display shows during training, how to check gains afterward, and which Speed targets unlock deeper gardens.

Treadmill training in Steal a Seed raises your Speed attribute. Speed acts as a progression gate: deeper garden sections require higher Speed, and higher Speed also makes ordinary theft attempts easier. The official game description puts it directly in the core loop: "Train on the treadmill to boost your Speed," alongside upgrading the treadmill and unlocking more planters. To start, find the treadmill in your base area and hop on; Speed then climbs continuously while you stay on it, and the HUD Speed stat plus the per-second gain shown during the session tell you whether it's working.

Getting on the treadmill to start training

  1. Find the treadmill in your base area.
  2. Interact with it to hop on — a player in a recorded session simply walked up and hopped on with no stated prerequisite.
  3. Training runs while you are on the treadmill, with Speed increasing continuously.
  4. The treadmill can be upgraded with cash, which raises the training rate shown during sessions.

The specific button prompts, level requirements, and stop interaction aren't documented here; treat the in-game prompt on the treadmill as the final source of truth.

Reading Speed progress during a session

Your current Speed shows as an on-screen HUD stat (a new player's Speed and Jump both read zero at the start). While training, the display shows a per-second gain — for example, "+2 per second" on a fresh treadmill. Upgrading the treadmill raises that rate: one session showed it climbing from +2/s to +3/s, and later sessions after further upgrades showed +19.6/s.

These figures are single observed sessions at different treadmill levels, not a universal rate table. Check the per-second number displayed in your own session for what your current treadmill actually gives.

Confirming Speed gains after training

  1. Note your Speed number on the HUD before training.
  2. Train and watch the per-second gain accumulate.
  3. Step away and check the Speed stat again. In a recorded session, a player left after training and returned to a much higher Speed value (from around 1 million to 26 million after some time away), confirming gains persisted after leaving the treadmill.

There is no dedicated summary screen or confirmation message; the HUD Speed number is the only verified feedback, so compare it against your pre-training value.

Using garden requirements as training targets

Train toward the recommended Speed displayed at each garden entrance rather than an arbitrary number. Early areas demand very little, but requirements ramp up fast: one player hit gates recommending around 900 Speed at the second section, 10k at the third, then roughly 170k, 2.5 million, 18 million, and far higher (with reported requirements in the hundreds of millions to billions at the deepest sections). Your next useful target is simply the number that unblocks the garden you're currently locked out of.

Trails as a separate speed boost

Besides treadmill training, the Trail Shop sells Trails that provide speed boosts (and cash boosts). Trails unlock sequentially: you must purchase the previous Trail before the higher-level one becomes available. Treat Trails as a supplement to treadmill training, not a replacement for it.
