Steal a Seed How to Plant Seeds: Planting Steps & Growth Timer
How to plant a seed in Steal a Seed: where to plant it, how the growth timer works, how long growth takes, and how to claim the plant into a planter.
To plant a seed in Steal a Seed, carry it to the Planting Area and plant it there. Once placed, a growth timer appears above the seed, and it sprouts into a full plant when that timer hits zero — that timer is your confirmation that growth has started and your way to track when it finishes.
What you need before planting
- A seed you have secured and are carrying back home.
- Space in the Planting Area to place it.
Planting the seed
The planting action is location-based: bring the seed to the Planting Area and plant it there. Immediately after placement, watch for the growth timer above the seed — if it's counting down, the seed is growing correctly.
Reading growth timing
Growth time depends on the seed itself, and the timer above the planted seed shows the remaining time for that specific seed. Treat any specific numbers as observations from particular seeds and game versions, not fixed values. Examples players have recorded:
- 25 seconds for a common seed
- 3 minutes for a rare (blue-coded) seed
- Far longer timers for high-tier seeds — reported examples include 11, 14, 16, 18, 20, 25, and 43 minutes
Always trust the in-game timer over any outside number; growth times can change after updates.
Claiming the plant: a separate step
Growing a plant and putting it to work are two distinct actions. When the timer finishes and the plant appears, it does not start earning on its own — you must pick it up and place it into a planter before it generates cash.
Planters hold one planted seed and its resulting plant each. If you plant into a planter that already holds a plant, the existing plant is replaced and moved into your storage, so check its income before swapping it out.
Speeding up growth
No free, generic way to bypass the full growth timer is documented here. Purchasable items can reduce plant time: bucket-type items bought from the shop shorten a plant's remaining timer before you claim it. Note that some other carried items, like traps, immobilize the player carrying a seed rather than affecting growth at all.
Once your plant is claimed into a planter and earning, use an identification or income reference to see what it's worth.
